2025 Patriot’s Pledge

May 22, 2025

Tonight, Mercer County Schools had the privilege of recognizing our high school seniors who have made the courageous decision to serve in the United States Armed Forces. These students represent the best of us—honor, service, and a commitment to something greater than themselves.

We were deeply honored to welcome Jessica Lynch as our keynote speaker. A native of West Virginia, Jessica became a national symbol of courage and resilience after surviving capture in Iraq in 2003 during her service with the U.S. Army. Her story is not just one of survival, but of strength, hope, and the enduring spirit of a soldier. Her message to our students was powerful, personal, and profoundly moving. We are sincerely grateful for her presence and the impact she made tonight.

We also thank Dayton Meadows, owner of Mountain Memories Freedom Flag, for presenting monetary awards to four of our students—two for essays and two for artwork that beautifully expressed their patriotism.

To our students preparing to enter the military: we wish you strength, safety, and success in the days ahead. Your community stands behind you, and we are incredibly proud of the path you’ve chosen.
