Wellness Wednesday – Hope and Positivity

This week, Mercer County Schools students are focusing on gratitude and spreading encouragement.

• K–5: building a “Gratitude Garden”

• 6–12: posting uplifting messages and quotes

When we focus on hope and positivity, we grow stronger together. Let’s remind one another: Hope saves lives.

Congratulation to our 2025-2026 Student Council! These students have already show great leadership potential at Sun Valley and are a great role model for the other students. Our student body voted for officers after listening to the candidates give speeches. We are excited for all the great work these students will do this school year.

Wellness Wednesday – Connections Matter
This week, Mercer County Schools students are learning that no one has to face tough times alone and recognizing that connections matter. Younger students are identifying five trusted people they can turn to when they feel worried or sad, while older students are reflecting on who is “in their corner” during tough times. Families can support this at home by talking with children about who they can reach out to when they need help and by reminding them that they are never alone.

K–5: drawing “Helping Hands” to identify five trusted people

6–12: listing who’s “in their corner”

When we know who we can turn to, we feel stronger and more supported. Let’s remind one another: You are never alone.

During the month of September, we will be celebrating "Wellness Wednesday" for Suicide Awareness month.
This week’s focus: Feelings Are Real, and They Matter.

Students across Mercer County Schools are learning that all feelings—happy, sad, worried, mad, excited—are normal and important. By naming our emotions and talking about them, we build strength and healthy coping skills.

Let’s support one another by checking in, listening, and reminding each other: Your feelings matter.

Our 4th graders practiced adding three-digit numbers using base ten blocks. This hands-on activity helped them visualize place value, regroup when needed, and deepen their understanding of how addition works. Using the blocks made math more concrete and engaging while building confidence with larger numbers.

DID YOU KNOW...
Showing up on time every day is important to your child’s success and learning from preschool forward.
Missing 10% of school (1 or 2 days every few weeks) can make it harder to:
• Gain early reading and math skills.
• Build relationships.
• Develop good attendance habits.
High quality preschool and kindergarten has many benefits!
• The routines your child develops will continue throughout school.
• Make the most of early grades by encouraging your child to attend every day.
