🌄 Attention Mercer County 9th & 10th Graders! 🌄

Do you love travel, adventure, photography, social media, or exploring the beauty of West Virginia? Then the WV Governor’s School for Tourism might be for you!

This FREE 10-day summer program (June 20–29, 2026) takes students across West Virginia to explore state parks, iconic landmarks, outdoor recreation, and tourism careers. Students stay in state park lodges, meet industry professionals, and help develop ideas to promote tourism in our state.

Only one freshman or sophomore from each county is selected — and the entire experience is paid for. Students who participate also serve as WV Tourism student ambassadors for the following year.

📅 Application Deadline: May 1, 2026
📍 See your school counselor for details on how to apply.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience “Almost Heaven” like never before!

🎉 Congratulations to our two Montcalm High School Robotics Teams for an outstanding performance at the 2026 West Virginia State Championship – VEX V5 Robotics Competition! 🤖

While it is bittersweet to see the season come to an end, our teams have learned so much and accomplished some truly amazing things along the way. Both teams competed at a very high level, with one team advancing to the finals and the other reaching the quarterfinals. Even more impressive, both teams finished in the Top 20 in the state! 👏

A special shoutout to Fire Hydrolics, who proudly brought home a trophy from this year’s competition the Sportsmanship Award! 🏆 This award reflects the character, teamwork, and respect our students demonstrate both on and off the field.

If you see members of these two teams out and about, be sure to congratulate them and let them know how proud you are of their hard work and dedication!

📚✨ Golden Horseshoe Test on March 10, 2026, ✨📚

All eighth-grade students are required to take the Golden Horseshoe Test on March 10, 2026.

While it’s a competition, it also fulfills the social studies testing requirement under W.Va. State Code §18-2-9.

Last year, for the first time in more than a decade, MHS celebrated two Golden Horseshoe winners.

That’s a remarkable academic achievement, and we’re aiming even higher this year. Let’s build on that momentum.

Important details: This is a multiple-choice test that will be given at school on March 10, 2026.

Parents, please encourage and support our students to begin preparing now.

More information is provided through this link: https://wvde.us/academics/awards-recognition/golden-horseshoe/golden-horseshoe-test-information

Let’s raise the bar again in 2026. 🏆
