Good evening Melrose Cardinals,
I have several reminders of upcoming events. Do not forget Friday, May 27th is an early out day. We will dismiss at 12:14. Wednesday, June 1 is our kindergarten celebration. It will begin at 8:30 and fifth grade Step Up program is at 10:00. Parents please park in the church lot and the loop. The programs will be in the gym. Kindergarten parents do not arrive before 8:00 and fifth grade parents do not arrive before 9:30. This will allow time for cars to clear out before a new group arrives.
Thursday, June 2 is our annual field day. Parking will be limited. You may park on the church lot, the loop and front lot if spots available. You cannot park behind the school building. Our field day will begin at 8:30 and conclude at 1:00. Teachers will be contacting parents to bring canopies, snacks, and drinks in a cooler. Students will need to wear tennis shoes, class shirts, and may bring a towel and sunscreen. Students should NOT bring toys or their phones. Mr. Nester will need parent volunteers for the ribbon table, judging, and race callers. If you are interested in volunteering let your child's teacher know. You will need to arrive at 8:15 and meet Mr. Nester at the gym.
June 2 is also our last day of school. This school year has flown by!
Have a great evening.

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have a field trip to Glenwood Park tomorrow for boat races. There is a chance of rain, so be prepared for that. Lunch will be provided- ham and cheese croissants, chips, carrots, fruit and a cookie. Wear tennis shoes. Tomorrow evening starting at 5:00 there will be a parent night at the school. You and your child will be doing a STEM activity together. It should be a fun night. Come out and join us.

Good evening Melrose Cardinals. I have several reminders for this week. Tomorrow we have 24 students representing Melrose at the County PE Field Day. A flyer went home today with specific details. Wednesday the 18th is our annual Wax Museum. Students need to have their projects when they arrive at school. Thursday our students in 3, 4 and 5 will head to Glenwood Park for boat races. They have been working hard on building their boats. We also have a Parent Night Planned for that evening at 5. Students in K-2 will work with clay and grades 3,4, and 5 will build a paper car. Please try to join us. Friday our third graders go to Camp Creek and the 5th graders head to Pigeon Forge. Our third and fifth graders need to wear tennis shoes for their field trips. Monday, May 23 the entire school will go see the movie Matilda at the Granada Theater. Don't forget to send in signed permission slips.

Good evening. I have a few reminders. We have kindergarten and first grade going on field trips tomorrow. Make sure your child wears comfortable shoes. There should be no sandals worn. The buses will leave promptly at their assigned times, so have your child here on time. Don't forget to send in items for our boats in grades 3, 4, and 5. We go to Glenwood Park on the 19th to try out their boats. Our students are finishing up state testing tomorrow. Wow, have they tried hard! Give your child a high five for putting their best effort forth.
Have a great evening,
Mrs. Bennett

Thursday, April 7 there will be a funeral at Melrose Community Church. It will be EXTREMELY important that NO ONE parks on the church lot PRIOR TO 2:15. The service will be concluding close to this time. Parents if you pick your child up and use the church lot DO NOT ARRIVE prior to 2:15. If you would line up and stay in your cars the staff will walk students to your vehicle on Thursday, April 7. Once all students are loaded at 2:26 a staff member will direct traffic to start moving.

I am super proud of these girls. Nora Williams placed 2nd in the county for 3rd graders for the Young Writers Contest. Myah Patel placed 1st in the county for 5th grade. Myah read her story in front of an audience today (and did an execellent job) and placed 1st overall. Her story was sent to the next level (state). Way to represent Melrose!

Good afternoon. Just a reminder that our fifth grade will host their Annual Market Days Thursday and Friday this week. The fifth graders have been learning about supply and demand. They have made a business proposal and will set up shop to sell their items Thursday and Friday. All students will have a chance to shop. Please send money in an envelope or baggy marked with your child's name. Items will range in price from 50 cents to ten dollars. All money raised will go towards the fifth grade field trip.
