Mr. O'Dell's classes have been working with Micro:bits, which are small, computer-chip-like devices that introduce students to how software and hardware work together and have an LED light display, buttons, and many input/output features students can program to do various things!

Students in Mr. O’Dell’s 7th grade “Automation & Robotics” class have been working on gear trains and building an autonomous, self-driving vehicle that can access and deliver supplies to people during disasters.  (We were already working on this prior to Hurricane MILTON, but this unfortunate disaster gave this activity greater real-world authenticity!)  The vehicle will be responsible for getting supplies to those that are stranded, and moves by adding a motor to the gear train.  Students have learned about motors, which are outputs devices used to generate motion in a system, like spinning wheels on a car.  Students used the VexV5 robotics parts to build their autonomous vehicle and then the VexV5 coding site to code the “brain” of the robot.
